Can you say that you truly love yourself? Do others think of you as a loving person? And what about being intimate with someone, does it always make you feel uncomfortable or are you able to let go and enjoy feelings of pleasure? The answers to these questions will tell you whether your sacral chakra is out of balance or not.
Color Association: Orange
Physical Location: Your lower stomach just above the genitals in both men and women. It is the 2nd chakra.
Your Sexuality Set Free
When you think about the fact that the Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian text prescribing ways to maximize enjoyment from sex, it is not surprising that there is a chakra that corresponds to sexuality. Ancient Indian text calls it Swadhisthana meaning “one’s own base.” Yet the sacral chakra has several names.
It is known as the second chakra as well as the abdominal chakra or navel chakra for its relation to its physical location in your lower stomach. The sacral chakra is thought to influence sex drive, sexual reproduction, joy, and pleasure. It is also known in an altruistic sense for infusing you with love and compassion for others.
The vibrant color orange that corresponds to the sacral chakra represents your desires, sexual freedom, and your level of consciousness with the world around you. True transcendence is only possible with a balanced sacral chakra.
Corresponding Physical Functions: Low back, sense of taste, circulation, reproduction, blood, saliva, bowels, endocrine glands, and kidneys.
Your Sacral Chakra in Balance
When your sacral chakra is in balance you exhibit a more easygoing nature. You are able to take life as it comes with a happy and well-adjusted disposition. Your desires motivate you to actually pursue your goals.
Within yourself you radiate joy that brightens all of your personal relationships leading to happier healthier romantic and interpersonal bonds. As the center of your emotions and true feelings, healthy love of self and of others grows out of a balanced sacral chakra.
An Imbalanced Sacral Chakra
On the other side of the coin, if your sacral chakra is imbalanced, the negative consequences are many. Both a hyperactive and hypoactive sacral chakra will turn you into an emotional wreck; crying all the time, unable to connect with others either physically or emotionally, and you are more likely to develop addictive behaviors.
Overactive Sacral Chakra
Particularly if your sacral chakra is in overdrive, you may develop a sexual addiction, even an emotional addiction to others. Your relationships will all be colored with dysfunctional behaviors including abuse, self-destruction, and irrational reactions to circumstances and people due to your overly emotional state.
If your sacral chakra is weak or inactive, far from clinging to other people, you will withdraw from other people. Sexual frustration and repression leads to a lack of joy and feelings of guilt which in turn lead to even more interpersonal problems.
Because of this, you end up withdrawing from life in general and losing the energy and the will to do anything with your life. Physically you could suffer from many ill effects from an imbalanced sacral chakra including:
- Kidney Problems
- Urinary Tract Infections
- General Achiness
- Muscle Tension
- And Irregular Periods in Women
In order to balance your sacral chakra, you are going to have to combine a little daily exercise with your daily devotionals and meditations. Here are some simple ways to balance your sacral chakra.
Balancing Your Sacral Chakra
First, you are going to have to get up and move a little, nothing too strenuous or dramatic. Especially if you are suffering from a weakened or inactive sacral chakra just the idea of exercise can tip you further into your state of inactivity. So start with a refreshing 30 minute walk where you can clear your head and meditate while you exercise.
Yoga is ideal for balancing your sacral chakra because it involves toning up your muscles which will help release some of the built up frustration and tension in your body. Wearing orange crystals and stones like amber and red jasper while focusing on your pelvic and abdominal areas during meditation will help a lot. Then add more oranges, cantaloupe, and water to your diet.
